The voluntary MySSS Pension Booster, formerly WISP Plus, lets you save extra inside SSS on top of your regular contribution. You can pay from PHP 500 a payment with no maximum, the savings and earnings are tax-free, and the total is paid out with your SSS retirement benefit (SSS Pension Booster primer, August 2024). SSS says it is open to all members, and OFWs are one of the groups it names.
Voluntary and mandatory: the difference
The MySSS Pension Booster has two parts (SSS primer):
- Mandatory, formerly the Workers’ Investment and Savings Program (WISP): the contribution on salary credit above PHP 20,000 goes into it automatically. It is explained on our SSS MPF page.
- Voluntary, formerly WISP Plus: extra savings you choose to add. This page covers this part.
Who can join the voluntary part: SSS’s Pension Booster page says it “is open to all SSS members regardless of their MSC, with one (1) posted contribution, and without filed final benefit claim”. The primer names self-employed members, OFWs, seafarers and executives as the groups it is aimed at. It replaced SSS’s older Flexi-fund for OFWs and the PESO Fund, whose balances moved into it (SSS Circular 2022-032).
Getting money out
From the SSS primer, by how long you have been in the scheme:
- Year 1: withdrawals only for “extreme hardship” such as critical illness, involuntary separation from employment, or “repatriation from the host country (if an OFW)”.
- Years 2 to 4: you can withdraw part or all of it, but with reduced earnings.
- From the 5th year in the scheme: part or all of it. Under Circular 2022-032 you keep 90% of earnings between 4 and 5 years, and 100% after 5 full years.
Circular 2022-032 sets the reduction. You keep 60% of earnings at 1 to under 2 years, 70% at 2 to 3, 80% at 3 to 4, 90% at 4 to 5, and 100% from 5 years. After a full withdrawal you must enrol again to keep saving.
At retirement, the primer says the total “is paid out as a pension, as lump sum, or a combination of both, and on top of their final benefit under the regular SSS program”. Circular 2022-032, from December 2022, says benefits are paid as a lump sum. SSS has not published a newer circular, so ask SSS which applies when you claim.
Returns
SSS reported a return on investment of 6.97% for the voluntary Pension Booster fund in 2023 (SSS Pension Booster primer, August 2024). For 2025 it reported 6.83%, and an average of 6.2% for January to May 2026, as SSS reported on 23 June 2026.
These are past results. Past returns do not tell you what the fund will earn in future, and SSS does not promise a return.
SSS has also waived the 1% yearly management fee on Pension Booster balances from 2025 to 2028 (SSS, 23 June 2026). Earnings are worked out at the end of each year and credited to your account (Circular 2022-032).
How to join and pay
- Enrol once. Log in to My.SSS, open the Services tab and choose the Pension Booster enrolment, then accept the terms. The SSS primer calls it “Enroll to MySSS Pension Booster (Voluntary)”, and SSS’s page calls it “Pension Booster”. SSS’s December 2022 launch notice says you apply once and membership does not expire.
- Add it to your PRN. When you generate the payment reference number for your regular contribution, enter your Pension Booster amount in its own field, at least PHP 500 (2026 Citizen’s Charter).
- Pay it with your regular contribution. The primer says Pension Booster payments “must be done together with their regular SSS contributions”. If your regular contribution for the month is already posted, the 2026 Citizen’s Charter describes a Pension Booster-only PRN in the MySSS app, and Circular 2022-032 allows a separate payment on the same condition. You can pay through any channel SSS accepts, in the Philippines or abroad.
You can follow your Pension Booster savings in your My.SSS account. Payment steps are in how to pay SSS contributions, and the regular contribution for OFWs is in how land-based OFWs pay SSS.

Questions people ask
What is the SSS Pension Booster?
A savings scheme inside SSS with two parts. The mandatory part takes the contribution on salary credit above PHP 20,000. The voluntary part, formerly WISP Plus, lets any member save extra, from PHP 500 a payment. Both are tax-free and paid out on top of the regular SSS benefit.
What is WISP in SSS?
The Workers' Investment and Savings Program, SSS's provident fund started in January 2021 for contributions on salary credit above PHP 20,000. It is now the mandatory part of the MySSS Pension Booster. WISP Plus, its voluntary version, is now the voluntary Pension Booster.
Can I withdraw my SSS Pension Booster savings anytime?
Not in the first year, except for extreme hardship such as critical illness, involuntary separation from work or repatriation as an OFW. From the second to the fourth year you can withdraw part or all of it, but with reduced earnings. From the fifth year you can withdraw part or all of it, and after five full years you keep all your earnings (SSS primer and Circular 2022-032).
How do I pay my SSS Pension Booster?
Enrol once in My.SSS under the Services tab. Then, when you generate the PRN for your regular contribution, enter your Pension Booster amount as well, at least PHP 500, and pay both together through any channel SSS accepts. If your regular contribution for the month is already posted, you can also pay a Pension Booster amount on its own (2026 Citizen's Charter; Circular 2022-032).
Is the SSS Pension Booster a good idea?
It depends on your plans, and we don't recommend it or advise against it. Points SSS states: earnings are tax-free, there is no maximum, and it is paid on top of your regular SSS benefit. Points to weigh: money is locked in for the first year except for hardship, withdrawals in years 2 to 4 get reduced earnings, and returns change from year to year with no promised rate.
