The steps in order
- Be a Pag-IBIG member and have your MID number ready.
- Enrol in MP2 online through Virtual Pag-IBIG, or at a branch with the MP2 enrolment form.
- Choose yearly payout or compounding. You can’t change it later.
- Note your MP2 account number.
- Make your first remittance of at least PHP 500. Your five years start then.
Pag-IBIG’s Citizen’s Charter lists “no standard requirements” for enrolling online and gives three working days for it. You don’t need to visit a branch, so you can do all of it from abroad.
Who can open one and what you need
Pag-IBIG’s Circular No. 487, dated 26 February 2026, opens MP2 to:
- all Pag-IBIG members, whatever they earn;
- former members with a source of income who paid at least 24 monthly savings;
- pensioners who paid at least 24 monthly savings before they retired.
The FAQ on Pag-IBIG’s MP2 page still shows older wording. It asks for “active” members, with at least one contribution in the last six months, and it names Filipinos who reacquired citizenship under Republic Act No. 9225 with 24 savings before migrating. The circular does not name that group separately. If that is you, ask Pag-IBIG before you enrol; our guide to dual citizenship explains RA 9225.
What to have ready:
- Your Pag-IBIG MID number. If you don’t know it, see how to find your Pag-IBIG MID number.
- A Virtual Pag-IBIG account, if you are enrolling online. See our guide to Virtual Pag-IBIG.
- Where yearly payouts would go, if you choose yearly payout: a Pag-IBIG Loyalty Card Plus, or a savings or checking account with LANDBANK, DBP or another bank Pag-IBIG accredits (Circular No. 487, section G). From 1 December 2026, Circular No. 503 also allows a nominated non-bank account or an accredited cash payout outlet.
- Your source of funds. The online form asks for it.
Enrolling online, step by step
Read this first: you choose the dividend payout during enrolment, and Circular No. 487 says the choice “shall be final for the duration of the account”.
- Compounded: dividends are added to your savings each year and paid with them at the end of five years.
- Yearly payout: dividends are paid to you each year and your savings stay the same size.
The MP2 calculator shows both side by side.
The steps on Pag-IBIG’s MP2 page:
- Log in to Virtual Pag-IBIG.
- Click “Be A Member”, then “Apply for MP2”.
- Fill in your Pag-IBIG details.
- Enter the amount you plan to save, your payout choice, how you will pay, and your source of funds.
- Submit, and note the MP2 account number you are given. You will use it every time you pay.
Rollover. Under Circular No. 487 you can agree at enrolment to roll the account over once, for one more five-year cycle, when it matures. You can also decide in the six months before maturity. If you never opt in, the account closes at maturity and stops earning. See how to withdraw MP2 savings.
At a branch instead. Fill in the MP2 Enrollment Form (PFF226) from pagibigfund.gov.ph and hand it in at any Pag-IBIG branch.
Opening and funding it from abroad
Online enrolment works from anywhere. What changes for OFWs:
- Help near you. Pag-IBIG lists Overseas Service Desks in Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan (Tokyo, by appointment), Milan, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kuwait, Qatar and Riyadh, with addresses and hours on its OFW page.
- Paying from abroad. Use the online and overseas channels Pag-IBIG accepts. See how to pay Pag-IBIG online. Keep your regular Pag-IBIG savings going too.
- No Philippine bank account. Circular No. 487 says that for members without one, “particularly overseas members”, MP2 money paid out is held as Accounts Payable, which you can withdraw at any time. From 1 December 2026 Pag-IBIG pays electronically under its Circular No. 503: to a disbursement card or your Loyalty Card Plus, a LANDBANK account, or your nominated bank or non-bank account or an accredited cash payout outlet. Ask Pag-IBIG which of these you can use from abroad.
Larger amounts
- You can put in one lump sum or many smaller amounts, from PHP 500 each time.
- More than PHP 500,000 paid on the same day must be by personal or manager’s check (Circular No. 487). Under Circular No. 500, cash and check payments at branches end after a six-month transition, about 21 February 2027. Pag-IBIG has not said how this large-payment rule works after that, so confirm with Pag-IBIG.
- All your MP2 accounts together can’t hold more than PHP 20,000,000 in savings. Pag-IBIG refunds any excess.
- You can open more than one MP2 account. Each has its own five-year term.
- The MP2 page FAQ asks for proof of income or source of funds above PHP 100,000. Its two answers on this differ (one counts total MP2 savings, the other a single remittance), and the rule is not in the circular. Ask Pag-IBIG before a large payment.
After you open it
Check that your remittances arrive in your Virtual Pag-IBIG account, and keep your MP2 account number somewhere safe. To see what different amounts and payout options could add up to, use the MP2 calculator. It gives an estimate, because Pag-IBIG declares the rate each year.
The rules in full are on our MP2 savings page, and the rest of Pag-IBIG on our Pag-IBIG guide for OFWs.
Questions people ask
Who is qualified to enroll in MP2?
Circular No. 487 (26 February 2026) opens MP2 to all Pag-IBIG members whatever they earn, to former members with a source of income who paid at least 24 monthly savings, and to pensioners who paid at least 24 monthly savings before retiring. The FAQ on Pag-IBIG's MP2 page still asks for active members and names RA 9225 dual citizens, whom the circular does not name separately, so check with Pag-IBIG if that is you.
How to open MP2 second account?
The same way as the first: enrol again through Virtual Pag-IBIG or at a branch. Circular No. 487 allows more than one MP2 account, each registered and funded separately with its own five-year term. The PHP 20,000,000 limit counts all your MP2 accounts together.
